    The NEA Caucus for Educators of Exceptional Children promotes the idea that every child deserves a free and appropriate public education.  We ask our colleagues in general education to join us in our efforts to support and enhance the ideas embodied in the IDEA act.  We do so in the belief that all learners are exceptional and that all teachers must advocate for all children.

    The NEA Caucus for Educators of Exceptional Children is a strong voice for ALL educational personnel.  This is because, in many important ways, we are all Special Educators.  In today’s schools, issues that need to appear to pertain only to students with disabilities are actually linked directly to the education of general education students as well.

    Our caucus is considered one of the nation’s expert resource on legislative issues at both the federal and state levels.  As just one example, our caucus has lobbied for the development of new language for the federal Individuals with Disabilities Act (IDEA) and plays a role in the lobbying effort for it’s reauthorization.  Within NEA, our caucus has effectively addressed important issues that have come before the NEA’s annual Representative Assembly.
